Weaving with Exotic Fibers
This class can be used as a companion class on spinning exotic fibers, or can be taken alone.
The workshop will cover designing the cloth for its function, choosing the sett, how to warp and dress the loom using fragile fibers such as camel down, cashmere, and quiviut. It will also deal with the design and warping techniques used for silks and super fine botanies. It will include the use of handspun exotic fibers and blends in both warps and wefts. (I do have heaps of exotic handspun for non-spinners.) The finishing techniques are very important to achieve successful fabric with exotic fibers and we will look at length at the three major areas of finishing, and how they can be combined to achieve the maximum effect from the fiber.
