Silk

This is a new workshop under development. The current description is:

In this workshop, we'll look at the rich variety of silk fibers available and what techniques to use to best spin them. We'll spin tussah and cultivated top, make exotic blends of silk with cashmere, kid mohair, or fine merino. We'll learn how silk "hankies" are made and how to spin them. We'll examine how twist and ply affect the yarn and the finished fabric in both and woven knit structures. We'll use a variety of novelty spinning methods to produce a set of designer yarns.

No. of Participants: 15 students. Students should be able to spin a continuous thread and have working relationship with their wheel.

Equipment: Students should bring their wheels with all its parts and extra drive band material, a variety of knitting needles, paper, and a pen.

Supplies: Generous amounts of fiber will be provided but if you have something you have a question about, or have fiber you'd like to share, please bring it along.
