Comprehensive Spinning
This workshop is designed for people who have some spinning experience but wish to deepen their understanding of this craft.
It covers the fundamentals of spinning -- how to make both a good worsted yarn and a good woolen yarn.
It explains the difference between those two methods, from the type of sheep breed to produce the correct fleece, fiber preparation, spinning and plying techniques, to the ultimate effect each spin has on the cloth it is designed to produce.
Spinners since early guild times in the tenth century have tended to specialize (and guard their secrets!) in either worsted or woolen.
The modern spinner must have an integrated knowledge to successfully handle the wide variety of fibers and design challenges in today's textile world.
So, in this class we will cover at least six different draws. We will also deal with the variety of equipment available, both for spinning and fiber preparation, and learn how to adapt you wheel to spin the yarn you want (rather than the yarn its willing to let you have).
We'll cover how to control diameter, how to spin a consistent yarn, and how the tension works.
No. of Participants: 15 students.
Students should be able to spin a continuous thread and have working relationship with their wheel.
Equipment: Students should bring their wheels with all its parts and extra drive band material.
Hand cards/ flicker/ dog brush/ wool combs. Do NOT go out and buy anything if they don't already have it. I have enough to share and then they can decide what suits them best.

Students should bring any problem fibers.
